Overview

Deciding where to live in retirement is a challenge that involves a multitude of factors that differ for everyone. Each person and couple should evaluate their current living situation to see where their goals and lifestyles in retirement can best be met. The program covers the various factors that most people should consider when thinking about where to spend their retirement years.

Michael Callahan, Edu4Retirement, Inc.

Michael E. Callahan, EA, CPC, FSPA, RMA®, CWS® now serves as President of Edu4Retirement, Inc., a financial servicing firm specializing in planning and investing for retirement. Mr. Callahan is also a Principal with Retirement Plan Advisory Services, LLC which provides qualified retirement plan compliance related services to broker dealers and financial institutions. Mr. Callahan was Sr. Vice President of Sales and Marketing for United Retirement Plan Consultants, Inc., and Vice President and Operating Manager of Pentec, Inc. - a wholly-owned subsidiary of United Retirement Plan Consultants, Inc. He was owner of Pentec, Inc. until the sale of the company.

He is a Fellow in the American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries (ASPPA) and an Enrolled Actuary licensed by the Joint Board for the Enrollment of Actuaries. He is also a Certified Pension Consultant and a former Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. He is a Retirement Management Advisor® with the Investment and Wealth Institute. He is a Certified Wealth Strategist® with the Cannon Financial Institute.

He has over 40 years of experience in the pension field. He serves on the Board of Directors for PenChecks, Inc. He has been a frequent speaker on pension issues, has made presentations to the Annual Conference of the American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries and to the Annual Conference of the Enrolled Actuaries, and has provided expert witness testimony to the Pension Advisory Council of the Department of Labor, the House Ways and Means Committee, the Senate Finance Committee, and the Internal Revenue Service. He has recently presented at the annual conference for the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans. He has several years of experience with public retirement systems. He served on the Board of Directors for the American Academy of Actuaries and American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries and is a past President of the American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries.

Mr. Callahan co-chaired the IRS Northeast Region Employee Benefits Conference for nine years and was a frequent speaker at the Conference.

Mr. Callahan also served on the Actuaries/Consultants Board of Directors for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. He has served on numerous boards of directors including the Board of Directors for Wheeler Clinic and the Cheshire/Southington YMCA.

Mr. Callahan was the first chair of ASPPA’s Political Action Committee.

Mr. Callahan was a co-founder of National Pension Alliance, LLC; an innovative concept in defined contribution plan recordkeeping.

Mr. Callahan co-authored the Defined Benefit Answer Book, published by Panel Publishers, Inc., along with Paul W. Denu, MSPA and Kathryn Smith, Esq. He is a contributory author to the American Institute of Certified Public Accountant’s CPA Guide to Retirement Plans for Small Business. He also published a book that was written for his son, “A Dad’s Guide to His Son’s Life Journey”.

Mr. Callahan currently provides continuing education seminars for Surgent McCoy CPE, LLC on qualified retirement plans for Certified Public Accountants and for the International Foundation of Employee Benefits Plan.

Mr. Callahan served on the Connecticut Retirement Securities Board to assist the Connecticut legislature in developing a comprehensive IRA based retirement system for Connecticut based companies.

Mr. Callahan became a Fit-to-Retire® coach to help those near retirement assess their readiness in self-identity, social networking, health and nutrition, personal relationships and financial security.

Mr. Callahan was selected as a Top 401 Retirement Advisor in the country by Financial Times for 2015, 2016 and 2017.

Mr. Callahan is a Registered Representative with Cetera Advisors LLC. He is Series 7, 24, 63 and 65, life, variable annuity, health and property casualty insurance licensed. He was the former owner and President of Pentec Capital Management, Inc. until the sale of the firm to National Investment Managers, Inc.

Mr. Callahan was the 2007 recipient of the Harry T. Edison Founders Award, a lifetime achievement award given by the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries to individuals whose contributions make a lasting, positive influence on the private pension system.
