Connecticut Department of Revenue Services Releases Tax Gap Report

The Connecticut Department of Revenue Services (DRS) today released the state’s tax gap report, required under Public Act 23-204 sec. 374. This year’s report analyzes data from the 2022 tax year and estimates Connecticut’s net tax gap at $2.998 billion. This reflects the difference between the calculated gross tax gap of $3.702 billion and the approximately $704 million expected to be collected through ongoing DRS enforcement actions.

Massachusetts Joins Flood of States Passing Pay Transparency Laws

On July 31, 2024, Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey signed the Frances Perkins Workplace Equity Act into law aiming to improve pay transparency and curb wage disparities. Massachusetts is the 5th state to pass pay transparency legislation in 2024 joining Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, and Vermont. This trend began in 2019 with Colorado. Since then, California, Connecticut, Maryland, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, and Washington have all passed similar measures.

Reminder: MyCTSavings Registration Requirement for Businesses with 5 or More Employees

Businesses with 5 or more employees who do not offer a retirement plan and have been in business since January 1, 2023 are required to either register and enroll employees in MyCTSavings, or provide another qualified retirement plan. Once enrolled, employees have the option to opt-out, stay with the standard Roth IRA, or customize a Roth IRA by setting the deduction percentage and choosing from several fund options.
