Overview

Please be aware that this is a 6-hour virtual program this year.

Cyber threats aren’t what they used to be – and artificial intelligence is changing the game even faster. This year’s Cybersecurity Conference takes a fresh look at what finance and accounting professionals need to know in an AI-driven threat landscape, from AI-powered fraud, deepfakes, voice cloning, and social engineering to the evolving responsibilities around AI governance and cybersecurity controls.

Through real-world examples, demonstrations, and practical strategies, you’ll learn how to protect sensitive information, strengthen fraud and cyber controls, recognize increasingly sophisticated deception, and put guardrails around AI without getting in the way of innovation.

- From the FBI Front Lines to the AI Era: How Cyber Threats Are Changing—and What Leaders Need to Do

Jonathan Trimble, CEO, Bawn

Jonathan Trimble

With more than 25 years of investigation and security experience, Jonathan is a co-founder of Bawn, which integrates cybersecurity, IT management, and cyber insurance to provide comprehensive cyber protection.

Prior to starting Bawn, Jonathan was a Special Agent at the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Jonathan led several complex investigations, which included the dismantlement of international organizations involved in cybercrime and financial institution fraud. Jonathan rose to become the Chief Technology Officer of the FBI’s Information Management Division, where he managed large-scale technical projects, including the development for the FBI’s $220M Central Records Complex and Data Analytics platform.

While working in private industry, Jonathan has led cybersecurity teams as a Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at a Midwest-based financial institution, and as Vice President of Services at an Austin-based cybersecurity startup. In 2018, Jonathan completed the Chief Information Security Officer program at Carnegie Mellon University.

With a passion for both client success and cybersecurity, Jonathan has served as the Chair of the Virginia Area Maritime Security Council Cyber Subcommittee, which raises awareness of maritime related cybersecurity issues with government, private industry, and industry association members. He most recently served as the Government Vice Chair on ACT-IAC’s Cyber Community of Interest, which provides opportunities for industry and federal government members to develop solutions to critical cybersecurity challenges.

Cyber threats are evolving rapidly, but the weaknesses criminals exploit often remain surprisingly familiar. Drawing on lessons from FBI cyber and financial-fraud investigations, Jonathan Trimble will examine how attackers take advantage of people, processes, and technology—and how artificial intelligence and automation are increasing the speed, scale, and sophistication of those attacks.

Designed for small and mid-sized accounting firms, including sole practitioners, this session will translate the changing threat landscape into practical priorities. Attendees will learn how to strengthen fraud controls, protect sensitive client information, prepare for cyber incidents, and build a more defensible cybersecurity and compliance program without requiring enterprise-level resources.

This session is available to registrants only.

- The Deepfake Playbook, Unleashed: Inside the Rapidly Evolving World of AI-Powered Deception

Perry Carpenter, Chief Deception Strategist, KnowBe4

Perry Carpenter

Perry Carpenter is a multi-award-winning author, podcaster, and speaker with a passion for deception and technology. With over two decades in cybersecurity, Perry has dedicated his career to understanding how cybercriminals exploit human behavior.

Perry’s career has been a relentless pursuit of understanding how bad actors exploit human nature. His fascination for the art and science of deception began in childhood with magic tricks and mental manipulations, evolving into a mission to protect others from digital threats. As the Chief Deception Strategist at KnowBe4, Perry helps organizations and individuals build robust defenses against the ever-evolving landscape of online deceptions.

His latest book, FAIK: A Practical Guide to Living in a World of Deepfakes, Disinformation, and AI-Generated Deceptions (Wiley: Oct 2024), tackles the fascinating and often daunting world of artificial intelligence. He explores AI’s potential benefits and the darker side of its application in deception and misinformation. Through engaging storytelling and practical advice, Perry equips readers with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate the complexities of AI-driven deception.

AI-generated deception is evolving at extraordinary speed. Deepfakes that once required specialized skills and significant computing power can now be created in minutes. Voices can be cloned from short samples, faces can be swapped in real time, synthetic identities can be built from scratch, and AI systems are making personalized deception easier to create and scale.

In this fast-moving session, Perry Carpenter takes audiences inside the rapidly evolving world of AI-powered deception. Through compelling demonstrations, current examples, and an accessible look at emerging capabilities, he explores how deepfakes, voice cloning, synthetic media, AI agents, and other tools are changing the way scams and social engineering attacks are built and delivered.

The session also examines an uncomfortable reality: visual and technical “tells” are becoming less dependable as the technology improves. The more durable defense begins with understanding the story, emotional pressure, and requested action behind a suspicious interaction. Attendees leave with a clearer picture of where AI-powered deception is headed and practical ways to protect how people make decisions when familiar signals of authenticity can no longer be taken for granted.
