Instructor Biography

William T. Sellay

Bill Sellay is a partner and is chair of the firm's International Practice Group. He serves as the relationship partner for New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq companies, U.S. subsidiaries of publicly and privately held international companies, and privately held emerging companies. He has substantial experience counseling companies on the structuring and negotiation of cross-border and domestic acquisitions, joint ventures, commercial contracts, and licensing arrangements as well as on the U.S. regulation of trade and business practices. A significant part of his practice centers on the special legal problems associated with production, marketing, and distribution of products and services, including the selection and termination of distribution channels, pricing, advertising and promotional programs, competition law compliance, intellectual property protection, and products liability prevention.

Mr. Sellay is Chair of the Intellectual Property Committee of the American Bar Association's Business Law Section. He is a member of the International Bar Association and the Licensing Executives Society. He is also past Chair of the Antitrust and Trade Regulation Section of the Connecticut Bar Association.

He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America, one of the most respected referral lists of attorneys in the U.S. Mr. Sellay was interviewed and quoted in a cover article of the August 2005 issue of Director magazine, a monthly publication for business leaders published in the UK by the Institute of Directors.

Mr. Sellay frequently speaks on legal and regulatory issues. Most recently, he was a speaker with international bankers and business executives on a program entitled "A Symposium on Doing Business in China," hosted by J.P. Morgan/Chase for its middle-market customers. He was a speaker at the Transatlantic Business Conference of the British American Business Council in Birmingham, UK, and was a speaker at "EU Enlargement and Competition Law" in Manchester, UK.

He is a member of the Advisory Board of the Clean Energy Fund, which invests in enterprises involved in the development, production, and use of energy from renewable sources. Mr. Sellay was appointed by the United States Secretary of Commerce to the Department of Commerce District Export Council. He is a member of the British American Business Council in the Midlands, UK, and the German American Chamber of Commerce and an associate member of the Canadian Bar Association.

Mr. Sellay received his B.S. degree in electrical engineering at Michigan State University, where he was a member of the Honors College and was elected to membership in the Tau Beta Pi honorary society. He held engineering positions with both IBM and Honeywell Corporation. He earned his law degree from the University of Michigan Law School.

Mr. Sellay is a member of the bars of the District of Columbia, New York, and Connecticut.
