State Tax Department Moving Main Office to Downtown Hartford

The Department of Revenue Services (DRS) main office at 25 Sigourney Street will be moving to a more accessible and energy efficient building at 450 Columbus Boulevard in downtown Hartford. The first wave of weekly moves will begin on July 8, and continue to the end of August. 
Said Commissioner Sullivan, “This will be a big change for DRS to a more modern office environment that will better serve the public and our employees. I am sure there will be some bumps along the way but we will all do our best to assure timely collections and taxpayer assistance throughout the relocation process. Given continuing state budget constraints, the agency will be working leaner and smarter in our new offices. Then, once successfully located, our next goal is to replace our increasingly outdated and inefficient tax information management system.” 

All DRS telephone numbers, email addresses and fax numbers will remain the same. Electronic filing and online payment functions through the Taxpayer Service Center (TSC) will not be affected. 

The weekly Friday afternoon moves may result in some Hartford office employees being unavailable until the following Monday. Any scheduled appointments and walk-ins at the Sigourney Street office should be re-confirmed with DRS to ensure the correct location during the transition period. 

The Hartford taxpayer Walk-in Center will remain open at 25 Sigourney Street until their relocation in late August. More information will be provided in the coming weeks. Public parking will be available for a fee at the Morgan Street Garage (get directions). 

The location and business hours of the DRS regional offices in Bridgeport, Norwich and Waterbury will not affected by the Hartford office move. 

The Department of Administrative Services (DAS) is coordinating all aspects of the move for the seven state agencies that will occupy the consolidated work space, common parking and cafeteria within the two buildings at 450 Columbus Boulevard. According to DAS, when the state acquired 450 Columbus it was one way to avoid the costly repairs and upgrades needed at 25 Sigourney Street - including, but not limited to, the need to replace the parking garage, an approximately $40 million project item by itself. The Commission on Human Rights & Opportunities (CHRO) will follow the DRS move and vacate the 25 Sigourney Street building. 

The buildings at 450 Columbus offers DRS and the other state agencies a more efficient office design that maximizes the capacity of the work space, as well as worker productivity. The modern, more energy-efficient heating and cooling (HVAC) systems at the new location will provide ongoing cost savings to the state and Connecticut’s taxpayers.
