2014 Educators of Excellence Awards

On June 4, the CTCPA celebrated Connecticut's outstanding accounting educators with the second annual Educators of Excellence reception and awards ceremony at Cascade in Hamden.

Educators from around the state were nominated by their students for an "Educator of Excellence" award; the winning professors were surprised with their "Eddy" apple-shaped trophies at the reception.

And the 2014 Eddys went to:

  • Dawn Massey, Fairfield University (Four-Year College/University Professor)
  • Georgia Buckles, Manchester Community College (Two-Year College/University Professor)
  • Alan DelFavero, Sacred Heart University (Adjunct Professor)

The following are excerpts from the winning nominations:

For Professor Massey:
“She is among the top professors I have encountered during my academic career, and one of the most genuine, welcoming, and helpful individuals I have met. She is truly an outstanding woman and a worthy candidate for the award. She is the reason I am where I am today.”

For Professor Buckles:
“Professor Buckles has taken a great deal of time out of her own personal schedule in order to meet with each student in our class individually … She is a very engaged teacher and very beneficial to the students who have the pleasure of being taught by her.”

For Professor DelFavero:
“Professor DelFavero should be recognized for his hard work and dedication to teaching accounting … He is one of the most well-liked professors on campus and has extraordinary patience when it comes to helping first-year students. I could not think of another person more deserving than he is.”
