Mid-sized Hartford Law Firm seeks an accountant or a paralegal with 1+ years of tax return preparation and/or estate settlement experience. Must have ability to prepare and file probate documents, estate tax returns, including Connecticut and federal estate tax returns and fiduciary income tax returns.

 Summary

The newly created position of Senior Accountant at Global Steering Systems, LLC (“GSS”) will be an integral part of our Accounting team as we continue to grow. This individual should be a professional with inherent leadership qualities and the attention to detail necessary to maintain the accuracy and integrity of the accounting activities related to our manufacturing operations. Primary responsibilities include monthly financial close process, posting journal entries, preparing account reconciliations and analysis, oversee daily activities of staff in charge of AR and AP processes, weekly ad hoc reporting, assisting with standard costing projects and updates to absorption rates, assisting with annual budget and re-forecasts, and assisting with the disbursement process. This position reports to the Controller and requires routine interactions with Manufacturing Operations, Purchasing, Production Control and other functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the month-end close process and prepare financial statements for the US operations plant

  • Complete standard cost projects and annual standard cost roll ups (updates to the inventory absorption rates) with the assistance of the Controller

  • Maintain the General Ledger and ensure proper posting of all transactions

  • Maintain account reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts

  • Complete the year-end external audits as well as a mid-year insurance audit

  • Support the development of annual budget, mid-year reforecast and department level budgets

  • Manage workload and oversee daily activities of the Staff Accountant and AP Clerk

  • Cross-trained to step in when help is needed with AR and AP processes

  • Strong interest in continuously improving the accounting and reporting process to improve efficiency and reduce waste.

  • Complete the review of the monthly intercompany reconciliations

  • Provide management team with financial reports/analysis to achieve goals.

  • Complete with the weekly cash disbursement cycle

  • Participates on productivity teams that contribute to cost saving objectives.

Experience and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required (Master’s or CPA preferred)

  • 5+ years’ experience in public/private accounting, preferably in the manufacturing industry

  • Advanced knowledge of Excel required

  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP

  • Experience with Standard Cost Accounting preferred

  • ERP systems experience desired
