Finance Committee Member - Massaro Community Farm Inc.

Massaro Community Farm Inc. (MCF) seeks a CPA to serve on its newly formed Finance Committee to advise the full board on budgeting, creating policy and developing reports that inform the board on the financial status of the organization. As a member of the finance committee, you will assist the leadership on developing an annual operating budget, monitoring adherence to the budget, assist in presenting financial performance to the full board, and help set long range financial goals that align with strategic priorities. CPA could but is not required to serve as a board member as well. The board generally meets monthly and financial results are presented quarterly.  The farm employs a part time bookkeeper and an external tax accountant for the preparation of form 990.

Approximate Time Commitment: 2-5 hours/month

Background/Description of Organization:  Massaro Community Farm is a nonprofit certified organic diverse vegetable farm located in Woodbridge, just 15 minutes from downtown New Haven. The farm operation  primarily serves seasonal CSA subscribers, local restaurants and farmer’s markets. The farm holds a number of annual events open to the entire community. It also conducts educational events for youth and adults throughout the year. In its twelfth year of operation, the farm dedicates at least 10% of its annual harvest to local hunger relief. Approximately 5,000 visitors come to the farm each year. The farm has three small endowment funds set up in partnership with the Community Foundation of Greater New Haven and Valley Community Foundation. We employ four staffers year round, including a farm manager who lives on the property. Additional seasonal staff can number between 10-15 and includes a summer youth employment program. Total annual operating budget is approximately $600,000.
