Student News and Views
Each fall, CTCPA engages Campus
Representatives ("Campus Reps")
at Connecticut colleges and uni-
versities to act as CTCPA liaisons
at their respective campuses.
These students get the word out
about CTCPA Student membership
and opportunities available in
the CPA profession, arrange for
speaking engagements for CTCPA
members and staff, and hold
CTCPA-sponsored charity drives at
their schools.
What have accounting students
around the state been up to? Check

eyes and ears on the ground!

Beta Alpha Psi President
Why did you choose accounting?
My high school accounting teacher
and mentor attended UConn and
majored in accounting. She took
us to the CTCPA CPA Careers
Conference at UConn when I was a
senior, and that's when I decided I
wanted to major in accounting.
What was your proudest moment
with Beta Alpha Psi this year?
We made a presentation to the
incoming class of accounting majors
and had an overwhelming interest in
membership, with 70 sign-ups.
Did you have any favorite speakers
this year?
Jeff Muzio of PwC. He has an
inspiring story and his speech was
extremely moving.
Did Beta Alpha Psi do any
community service this year?
We hosted a walk for diabetes and
a Junior Achievement Day where
we volunteered at a local elementary
school.
How has the CTCPA helped you?
The CTCPA has helped me to
become more acquainted with
the profession and has helped me
expand my professional network.

Anticipated Graduation: 2014
Accounting Society President
Why did you choose accounting?
I thought about being an accountant
at a young age. Upon completing my
first accounting course at Southern,
I was intrigued by the challenge of
the field as well as the broad range
of opportunities that an accounting
degree could provide for my future.
What was your proudest moment with
your accounting society this year?
The SCSU Club Fair held at the
beginning of the fall semester was
a huge success for us. The large
amount of interest that the students
showed in joining the Accounting
Society and email list really filled
me with a sense of pride in our
organization and the accounting
program as a whole.
Did you have any favorite speakers
this year?
We hosted speakers ranging from
Becker Professional Education repre-
sentatives to accountants out in the
field. The CTCPA New and Young Pro-
fessionals Panel gave the audience a
great perspective from accountants at
different firms and in different positions.
How has the CTCPA helped you?
CTCPA Interview Day was a great
opportunity for students.
