Instructor Biography

Stephen J. LaRosa,CPA

Stephen J. LaRosa is the Managing Director in charge of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP’s Hartford Office State and Local Tax practice, which provides state and local tax planning, compliance and audit defense services for various tax types including state income, sales and use, and gross receipts taxes. Steve has over twenty years of state tax experience, including tax management positions in both public accounting and private industry. He is a well-known speaker on Connecticut tax matters and has written a variety of articles on the subject. Steve services a broad range of clients from start-up businesses to Fortune 100 companies across all industry lines. He has extensive experience with state tax issues unique to e-commerce, biotechnology and financial services businesses as well as financial statement reporting issues. Steve is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants (“CTCPA”). He served as chairperson of the CTCPA State Tax Committee, the State Tax Forum and the State Tax Committee’s Legislative Sub-committee. Steve previously received the CTCPA Committee Member of the Year Award for his Connecticut tax legislation efforts. Steve serves on the tax committees of various business organizations, including the Connecticut Business and Industry Association. He frequently serves on task forces established by the Connecticut General Assembly and the Department of Revenue Services addressing tax and policy matters. Steve was recently appointed to represent the CTCPA on the External Advisory Group established by the Department of Revenue Services. His past appointments have included the Business Tax Credit and Tax Policy Review Committee, the Financial Services Industry Task Force, the Department of Revenue Services Business Users Group and the Corporation Business Tax Apportionment Group. Steve also represented the CTCPA on several task forces that included members from the Department of Revenue Services to address tax issues such as the taxation of pass-through entities, nonresident withholding and economic nexus. Steve received a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Connecticut and a master’s degree in taxation from the University of Hartford.
