Not-for-Profit Organization: Hospital for Special Care. The hospital is located in New Britain, CT, and serves as a regional resource specialty hospital providing post-acute in-patient and out-patient care to both medically complex adult and pediatric patients from across Connecticut and beyond its borders. The hospital treats patients affected by a variety of significant health issues, including: Autism Spectrum Disorder, ALS (“Lou Gehrig’s disease”), Parkinson’s Disease, Muscular Dystrophy, Acquired Brain Injury, serious cardiac diseases (including congestive heart failure and recovery after organ transplant or implanted device), significant respiratory diseases (including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and ventilator dependence), and spinal cord injury.

Position: Board of directors member

Description: We're seeking a finance professional to serve as a member of the hospital’s board of directors and to participate as a member of its Finance Committee and/or Audit Committee. The hospital holds a pre-nomination meeting process to determine a prospective board candidate’s and the hospital’s compatibility. Appointments to the board generally occur in early June at the hospital’s annual meeting with the pre-nomination and nomination process occurring from December/January through March/April each year.

Estimated Monthly Time Commitment: On average 2-3 hours per month from September through June depending on meeting calendars; 1-2 hours per month in July and August due to a lighter meeting schedule.

There are two remaining Hospital for Special Care Community Advisors’ events in 2017: a breakfast on Tuesday, November 7 at 8:00 a.m. and a gathering (with refreshments) on Wednesday, December 6 at 4:00 p.m. These informational sessions offer a convenient way to learn about the ways Hospital for Special Care and our affiliates impact our communities.
